Professor Smith was the first professor I met at Boston College, during my orientation week. He helped me pick my schedule, but more than anything he then became a friendly face on campus, and he remained a friendly face and professor from my freshman year business ethics class onto my senior year capstone class on happiness.

Prof. Smith helped me organize most every one of my course registration picks and often would help with guidance for navigating what was for me a hard to follow core curriculum. More than that, however, he was a great friend, and one of the first people who helped me develop a love for philosophy, contemplation, and reflection.

College gets weird and rough, and I think that every student could benefit from having a professor like Michael Smith, who engages with them, seeking to know who they are and how they think. Having a guidance counselor in college, someone who is focused on your career, but also pays attention to your personal growth and development, in my opinion, should be readily available to every student.
